My Big Preschool Girl

The big boys had a great first day of school. Unfortunately Weston came home sick on Thursday. I didn't worry too much about it when he said he wasn't feeling good on Thursday morning and when he came home and flopped down on the couch and said he wasn't feeling good I thought he was being dramatic. I told him to go upstairs and lay down on his bed thinking he would actually feel good enough to go out and play with his friends. I was wrong. He went upstairs and fell asleep for 2+ hours. Oops. Mom fail. He woke up with a fever. Once he had some Tylenol though he felt a lot better. Friday he got up and got himself ready for school and said he felt much better so I let him go to school, but when he got home he crashed again. Needless to say he had a very mellow, resting weekend.
While the boys were at school that first week I took Talia to get a haircut before she started preschool. Her hair was getting really long and she didn't ever let me put it all up, so it was always tangled and in her face. I wanted to cut it short and she seemed to be fine with it, so she got the cutest little bob. She loves her short hair and even lets me round brush blow dry it after her baths! I think it makes her look SO grown up too. Love it.
The next week after her brothers Talia started school. She is going to preschool at a home in our neighborhood. She had a great first day and is loving preschool. She is doing really well getting along with the other kids. I think her preschool is so cute. I love that there are only 8 kids in her class and that it's so close to home!
While Tal is at school I run errands while I can go with just one kid. Sometimes Beckett and I just hang out at home and get stuff done and play. Beckett is such a good kid. He plays really happily by himself. I imagine he kind of likes having all the toys (and Mom) to himself. :)

First Day of School!

The boys went back to school on August 19th this year. They were both pretty excited for their first day. Weston is in 3rd grade this year and Davin is in 1st grade at Fox Hollow Elementary. They both have wonderful teachers. Weston's teacher is having some health problems though so he has a long term sub and a student teacher helping out for the first couple of months of the year. Davin has a brand new teacher, but she seems great and Davin loves that her class is pirate themed this year.
The boys are early birds this year and Davin is finally at school full day. They get themselves up in the morning and get themselves ready. I get up to make their lunches and get them out the door. :) So far (a month in) it's looking like another wonderful school year! I sure love my big boys!

Getting Ready

We enjoyed our last week of summer. Playing with friends, swimming lessons, hanging around with no homework to do. It was great.
One night I took Weston and Davin out to do a little shopping. I had so much fun with my boys! Weston got a new backpack this year and he has finally graduated from cheap character backpacks. Hooray! The boys each picked out a first day of school shirt. Weston needed new church shoes and Davin found some tennis shoes on sale so he got those too. We were on the hunt for lunch boxes but the boys wanted tin ones and I couldn't find any in the stores. We ended up ordering them from Amazon and they are awesome.
When we were done shopping we stopped off at Culver's for an ice cream treat. We got mini concrete mixers. Yum.
The weekend before school started we had one last hurrah at Jump On It. The place was pretty much empty and the kids had a blast. We went out to dinner afterwards.  I think everyone had a very fun, relaxing summer.

Seven Peaks

We got home from Tahoe on Sunday evening. I got everyone unpacked and laundry started that night. Ian had Monday off of work, so we decided to spend the day at Seven Peaks water park. We hadn't been at all the whole summer and we were running out of time! It was a super fun day. Beckett and Talia mostly hung out in the kiddie area, which was great. Davin and Weston liked the lazy river. We only did a few slides since the lines were pretty long and no one was begging to go on them. We lasted for about 4 hours.
After playing in the water we were all hungry! We headed to Burger Supreme for some grub. Apparently it's becoming a tradition to go to Burger Supreme after Seven Peaks. It was awesome, as always. :)
When we got home everyone had some quiet time and got cleaned up. I finished up the laundry. For FHE we decided to take advantage of "Member Mondays" at Thanksgiving Point. All the $2 deals that they offer on Tuesdays in August are available to members on Mondays so we don't have to brave the crowds. We each got a $2 ice cream sundae at the Tower Deli. Yum. I also wanted to try out their $2 pound of fudge. (It was not great. Pretty disappointing actually. But the sundaes were fabulous.)
I always love getting to spend the whole day with my family. We had a blast!

Tahoe Family Reunion-Day 4

Saturday morning Ian and Talia went on a donut run to have something sweet with our souffle breakfast. Yum. The kids were all thrilled that there were donuts. The souffle turned out super good too. We took a pretty slow morning. We had planned on going to the community pool that day but we were all still pretty beat from lake day and we decided not to go.
The kids all went in the spa instead, which was also fun. The little babies took baths with Grandma. Then they played together outside until lunch time. After lunch the men headed out to play some horseshoes while the kids and moms snuggled up for a movie. We set up the popcorn bar again for the kids too. They thought it was awesome. Talia fell asleep during the movie and got a pretty decent nap.
That afternoon we took group pictures and then had meatball subs and Caesar salad for dinner. We ate dinner a little bit early so that we had plenty of time for the family talent show.
The talent show was SUCH a blast. Everyone came prepared and it was too cute. Jim was our MC and he did an awesome job introducing each act and telling jokes in between. Liz and Joy sang a duet, Mimi performed an original song, Rachel showed off her ninja kicks, Weston read a semi-original poem/song that he wrote, Davin showed his gymnastics/stretching moves to Katy Perry's "Roar," Talia sang Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam (she did really awesome and seemed to love the spotlight).
The adults showed off a little too. Mel and Brad did a lip sync to "Magic" by B.O.B., Jules and Rick did this hilarious ventriloquism act where Jules was the puppet, Mom and Dad showed us how to get ready in the morning (when someone else's hands are doing the work), then Ian and I closed the show by singing "Closing Time" with Ian playing guitar and me playing the ipad keyboard. The grand finale was the kids dancing to "What Does the Fox Say" with their animal masks on. Haha. So so fun and memorable. Weston said it was tied for his favorite part of the summer with lake day.
After the show we had a treat and got the kids to bed. It was our last night together. Joy had put together this funny Caption This game. Only the adults played. We made up funny captions for the kids' pics then read them out loud after they went to bed. We started gathering a few things so we could be ready to head out pretty early the next morning, but it was low key.
Last play time with cousins before we all headed home.
The next day we all gathered up our stuff and our families and headed home. The drive wasn't bad and we ran into Brad and Mel again in Winnemucca. We got home about dinner time. I'm so glad that I have such a fun family and that we all like each other so much. I'm also really grateful to my parents for making these reunions happen. They put in a lot of time and effort and funds into making it work for all of us. Can't wait to do it again!
