Wednesday morning we woke up in Mexico! My first time leaving the United States! I was pretty excited that I was finally going out of the country, even if it was only for one day to Mexico on a cruise. I felt like it was a rite of passage and made me feel like a real adult.
We got off the boat in Ensenada after breakfast and took a little shuttle bus to the downtown area. On the way there we were warned about the sketchy business practices of Chiclet selling children and fake silver selling street vendors. I was actually a little nervous about using my Spanish, but as it turns out I didn't really need it. Most of the vendors in the touristy shops spoke enough English to get by.
We wandered the shops and bought souvenirs. The boys got Mexican woven money pouches. Talia got a cute leather purse. Beckett got a maraca. I got a pair of silver and turquoise studs (probably not real silver since there were $5), and Ian bought a hat. After we got down one side of the street we realized that every street cart and shop had the exact same stuff for sale. We didn't want to do any of the excursions, so after an hour in Mexico we left.
We got back on the boat and enjoyed the fact that most of our fellow cruisers were off drinking in Ensenada, which left the pool nice and quiet. We spent the whole afternoon laying out by the pool, drinking cold sodas, reading, napping, and chatting. It was exactly what we wanted to do. We both got a little sunburned, but it was worth it.
Wednesday night we partied. Ok, not really. We never did hit any of the night clubs on the ship, but after dinner we went to the newlywed game they did in the lounge. After that there was a party on the Lido deck and we danced and had a good time. I was really impressed with how many people really knew the whole Gangnam Style dance! :)
Thursday was our day at sea, and you could feel it! It was a pretty rocky day. It mostly made me sleepy, which was fine since we spent the day lounging by the pool and enjoying our last day of relaxing vacation time. Ian willingly participated in the Men's Hairy Chest Competition. It was all in good fun, but he was bested by a couple of the older hairy men on the cruise.
We really liked hanging out in the 21 and over deck of the ship where it was quiet and the lounge chairs were padded and comfy. I plowed through my books, we both snoozed in our chairs, and we watched the ocean.
We dressed up a little for our last dinner. Ian was really looking forward to having sushi, which he was told was available on the last night, but the sushi was pretty minimal. Oh well. After dinner we strolled outside and watched the sun set. It was beautiful. And romantic.
That night we went to another stage show, which I loved because it was all oldies rock and roll music. Super fun! We decided to make the most of our last night by staying up late and going to a comedy show too.
Thursday morning we were back in Long Beach. We checked our bags the night before so we wouldn't have to carry them all off the ship, which meant we had a little extra time that morning before disembarkation to eat breakfast in the dining room and lay down by the pool.
We really had a fabulous time and I think we would both do a cruise again, but I could have done a couple more days. Next time I need a full week! :) I was excited to see my cute baby again though. Mom and the kids came to pick us up and we headed back to my parents' house to finish off the family part of our family vacation.
