My big kid started Kindergarten this week!
Monday morning was a little emotional. I was surprised that I teared up. I have been sending Weston to preschool at this same elementary school for the last two years, but leaving him all day. Not spending lunch time with him. It was a little hard to let go. He had no problem running into the classroom though. He had a couple friends from preschool in his class, so maybe that helped him adjust.
I quite like his teacher. She seems very organized. Weston has a little 10 minute homework assignment each night plus 20 minutes of reading. So far he's been a little cocky about his homework, saying that it's too easy for him. It kind of is true, but I'm attempting to teach the kid some humility, so I point out the things he can do better on with writing his name, learning to read, etc. Needless to say Weston is more than ready for this leap into school and I am so proud of my cute, smart, sensitive kindergartner!
As for us non-kindergartners . . . we are bearing the absence of the 5 year old tolerably well. The first day Davin asked where Weston was three different times. Today we went on our first outing without him. It was fun. I met up with a friend and her little girls at Wheeler Farm. I am enjoying having some more one on one time with Davin and Talia. The house is MUCH quieter with Weston gone. Also I feel like I can finally get and keep my house clean. It's amazing how much more chaos and mess there is with 3 kids home all day compared to just 2.
I think we are all still adjusting to our new schedule. It will change again next week when Davin starts preschool on Mondays and Wednesdays. I asked Davin if he likes being home with me and Talia. He said "Yeah, but I wike to go to school too." Mixed reviews for Mom. :) Anyway, here's some photos from our farm fun today!

Kallie's principal last year was Mrs. Butts. *I* nearly giggled at that name! It's definitely a not-so-great name for someone working in public education! She told the kids to call her Mrs. B.
Congrats on having a kindergartner! I'm sending mine off tomorrow for first grade...and I'm so sad that she's not going to be around for so much of the day! I'm glad your adjustment is going well.
I can't believe he's gone that long. Claire is in class 8:20 to 10:55.
Loved that he laughed at the name.
That was a great 'mom' moment! He really is a cutie pie. :) So glad he's having fun. And I love that you always include a sweet picture of Talia. Love that happy girl!!
Haha this was cracking me up. Love the Butler thing. And Justin said that he always had all girl friends in elementary school and it totally gave him the advantage over the other guys in middle school, haha! I'm sure that's what you wanted to hear.
Your "big kid" is adorable. Nothing like the first day of Kindergarten picture! I'm glad you're liking your new schedule. Beware though- time goes double time once your kids start school :)
P.S my security word id hordom. Okeee
What a cute kindergartener too! How fun. He looks so happy. It seems like a long day for a kindergartener, but sounds like he is handling it good. I always have mixed emotions too. Even with Brayden starting preschool today I have mixed emotions. I am crazy. Talia and Davin are looking so much older. Glad you got out and enjoyed a fun adventure without Weston. That is one thing I do love about Tanner being in school....outings with less kids :)
Wow, Utah kindergarteners are going to be way smarter than California kids. Bryn only goes to school from 9-12:20 and she has zero homework. Glad Weston likes school! It makes the change easier for everyone.
Weston is so grown up!!! I think that's sweet that you teared up. It's always tender watching these kids grow up. It's good, though, that Davin still "wikes" school. I miss all three of those kids!! Good thing we have another trip planned in the fall!
How handsome (and funny) is Weston? Can you believe he's in Kindergarten already! I bet it will be nice with only 2 at home during the day though...and some days with only Talia? That will be nice, but of course you'll miss them too!!
I can't believe he's in kindergarten. That would be hard to have them gone all day, but when they are loving it, it must make it easier. And just having Preston in pre-school is so nice to just get a few things done, so I'm sure that's nice! He's a cutie!
That is so funny that he thought her name was funny. Such a boy thing to do. :)
That is really nice that you only have 10 minutes of homework plus reading. We had a super gung ho Kindergarten teacher and homework would tally out to an hour with the reading time included. I liked it because he learned a lot, but I didn't love it because it was a lot of work for me!
He even has less homework this year in first grade! Crazy.
So glad you guys are doing well. Talia just gets cuter everyday.
